Destruction Warlock

Ranged DPS high demand

A direct-damage powerhouse that combines Shadow Bolt spam with fire spells for the highest Warlock DPS.

How It Feels to Play

Destruction is the 'big numbers' Warlock spec. Your Shadow Bolts hit harder thanks to talents like Ruin (100% bonus crit damage), and you weave in Immolate and Conflagrate for burst moments. When Shadow Bolt crits, you see numbers that rival any class in the game. It's the most visually satisfying Warlock spec.

The rotation is deceptively simple: Shadow Bolt, Shadow Bolt, Shadow Bolt, with Curse of Elements/Doom maintained and Immolate kept up if you're specced into it. But the optimization comes from understanding when to use Conflagrate, managing your Imp's Fire Shield buff, and timing Life Tap so you don't waste healer mana.

Destruction is generally the highest DPS Warlock spec in TBC, especially once you have enough crit and spell power to make Ruin shine. It scales incredibly well with gear, and in later tiers, Destruction Warlocks are competing for the top of damage meters. The downside is you're less durable than Demonology (no Soul Link) and bring less raid utility than Affliction (no Malediction).

40 into Destruction for Shadowfury, 21 into Demonology for Demonic Sacrifice (sacrifice your Succubus for 15% Shadow damage boost) or keep your Imp for Blood Pact. Shadow Bolt spam is your core rotation. Every crit does double damage thanks to Ruin, making crit rating incredibly valuable. Use Curse of Elements or Doom as your curse.

Spell hit cap is 16%. Cataclysm gives 5% for Destruction spells, so you need 139 rating (11%). Spell Damage scales Shadow Bolt directly. Crit is HUGE for Destruction because Ruin gives 100% bonus crit damage. Each Shadow Bolt crit does double damage. Haste speeds up Shadow Bolt casts.
