A damage-over-time caster that restores mana and health to the entire party. Every raid wants exactly one.

How It Feels to Play

Shadow Priest is one of the most unique specs in TBC. You deal solid ranged DPS through damage-over-time spells, but your real value is Vampiric Touch and Vampiric Embrace. Vampiric Touch restores mana to your entire party based on your damage dealt. Vampiric Embrace heals your party based on your damage. You're a battery that also kills things.

The rotation is straightforward: keep Shadow Word: Pain and Vampiric Touch active on the target, use Mind Blast on cooldown, and fill with Mind Flay. It's a DoT management spec at its core, but the real satisfaction comes from watching your party's mana bars stay full while other groups are running on fumes.

Every raid wants exactly one Shadow Priest, and the demand is consistent. You'll almost always be placed in the caster group with Warlocks or Mages who benefit most from your mana restoration. The downside is that it's usually just one spot, since bringing two Shadow Priests has diminishing returns. So you need to be the best Shadow Priest applying, not the second best.

47 into Shadow for Vampiric Touch and Pain, 14 into Discipline for Meditation and Inner Focus. Vampiric Touch is your defining ability. It restores mana to your entire party. Your rotation: keep Shadow Word: Pain and Vampiric Touch up, Mind Blast on cooldown, fill with Mind Flay. Misery and Shadow Weaving are huge raid debuffs that benefit all Shadow damage.

Spell hit cap is 16% (202 rating) against raid bosses. Shadow Priests need 76 rating with 5/5 Shadow Focus. After that, Spell Damage directly increases your DPS and your party's mana return through Vampiric Touch. Haste lets you fit more Mind Blasts and Mind Flays into your rotation.
